Tennis Volley Technique: From Net Novice to Net Master
Mastering the Tennis Volley
The volley is the shot that finishes points. Coming to the net requires confidence, quick reflexes, and proper technique.
Ready Position at the Net
Stand about 2 meters from the net, feet shoulder-width apart, weight on the balls of your feet. Hold the racket in front of your body with the head at eye level. Stay low with bent knees.
The Punch Volley
Volleys are not swings - they are punches. Step forward into the ball with a short, firm motion. Use the continental grip for both forehand and backhand volleys. Keep the racket head above your wrist at impact.
