Tennis Tips for Beginners on Holiday in Bali
Your First Tennis Lesson in Bali
Taking up tennis during your Bali holiday is a fantastic idea. The tropical setting, expert coaching, and relaxed atmosphere create the perfect environment for learning. Here are our top tips to make the most of your first sessions.
1. Start with the Right Grip
The continental grip is the foundation of tennis. Your coach will show you how to hold the racket properly in the first few minutes. This grip allows you to hit forehands, backhands, and serves without constantly changing your hand position. Do not worry about getting it perfect immediately - it becomes natural with practice.
2. Focus on Footwork First
Good footwork is more important than a perfect swing. Ready position, split step, and moving to the ball are the three fundamentals. Your coach will drill these patterns until they become automatic.
3. Play Early in the Day
Bali's tropical climate means the midday sun is intense. Book your lessons for 6-9 AM or 4-6 PM. The morning sessions are especially pleasant with cooler temperatures and beautiful light on the court.
4. Hydrate Constantly
Bring at least 1 litre of water to every session. The humidity in Bali means you will sweat more than you expect. Take water breaks every 15-20 minutes even if you do not feel thirsty.
5. Wear the Right Shoes
Court shoes provide the lateral support needed for tennis. If you did not pack court shoes, clean trainers with flat soles work well. Avoid running shoes with thick curved soles - they increase the risk of ankle rolls.
6. Book Multiple Sessions
One lesson is fun, but three or more sessions with the same coach creates real improvement. Each session builds on the last, and you will be amazed at the progress by day three or four.
