How to Hit Topspin on Your Forehand: Step-by-Step
The Topspin Forehand
Topspin is the key to modern tennis. It allows the ball to dip sharply after crossing the net, giving you both safety and aggression on groundstrokes.
The Low-to-High Swing Path
Topspin is generated by swinging the racket from below the ball to above it. Drop the racket head below the contact point during the backswing, then brush up through the ball at contact. The steeper the upward path, the more topspin you generate.
The Windshield Wiper Finish
After contact, let the racket finish across your body in a windshield wiper motion. Your forearm rolls over as the racket moves from right to left (for right-handed players). This motion is natural once the swing path is correct.
