5 Tennis Footwork Drills You Can Practice Anywhere
Tennis Footwork Drills
Good footwork is the foundation of every tennis stroke. These five drills can be practiced anywhere - in your hotel room, on the beach, or at the gym.
1. Split Step Practice
Stand in ready position, bounce lightly on your toes, then perform a split step (a small hop landing with feet shoulder-width apart). Practice timing the split step to coincide with an imaginary opponent hitting the ball.
2. Cross-Step Recovery
Start at the center of an imagined baseline. Take three shuffle steps to the right, then cross-step back to center. Repeat to the left. This mirrors the recovery movement after hitting a wide ball.
