How to Fix Your Tennis Backhand: Common Mistakes
Fixing Your Tennis Backhand
The backhand is where most recreational players struggle. Whether you play one-handed or two-handed, these common mistakes may be holding you back.
Mistake 1: Wrong Grip
Many players use their forehand grip for backhands. For a two-handed backhand, your dominant hand should be in an eastern forehand grip and your non-dominant hand in an eastern forehand grip. The grip change must happen during the split step.
Mistake 2: No Shoulder Turn
The backhand requires a full shoulder rotation. Your back should face the net at the peak of your backswing. Without this turn, you lose power and consistency.
